Great story. My mom said I’d read it in just a couple days…I guess she knows me well. I was left wanting more. Set in 1993 with a majority of the book flashing back to World War II, I’d recommend this to anyone who enjoys somewhat modern historical romances or enjoys the idea of second chances and secret lives.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I’ve already gotten the author’s other novel from the library! It is amazing to me that we are still facing these race issues, but in many parts of the country it is still very real. Even in fairly integrated communities there are little signs of a deep tradition of separation. I recall very clearly my mother, who taught me not to be prejudiced, changing her tune as soon as dating came up. If race relations interest you at all and you can open up your imagination to fiction, this is a very good read.
Wonderful “upstairs/downstairs” story! It was a little hard to get into it in the beginning, but once I did I simply couldn’t put it down. Perfect for avid followers of Downtown Abbey while we wait for the next season! My only disapointment about this book was that it ended. I would like to see what happens next!
