Breaking Night: A Memoir of Forgiveness, Survival, and My Journey from Homeless to Harvard by Liz Murray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I have waited more than a week to write a review on this book. I guess because mostly this book didn’t show me her world so much as open my eyes to the world of those that are living around me. There are countless children and families in similar situations.
While I did find her story inspiring in a sense, it was less in the “follow your dreams, anyone can do it” vein and more in the “have more understanding and compassion for the children who are subjected to horrible things these days” way. We tend to forget that children only learn a life they can see. They learn right from wrong at home. They learn what stable adulthood is at home. It’s really no wonder the world is full of less and less of those.
